Mahalakshmi Ashtakam: Sanskrit Mool Paath, Roman Transliteration and English Meaning

Verse 1

नमस्तेऽस्तु महामाये श्रीपीठे सुरपूजिते।
शङ्खचक्रगदाहस्ते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Roman: Namaste’stu Mahāmāye Śrīpīṭhe Surapūjite | Śaṅkha-cakra-gadā-haste Mahālakṣmi Namo’stu Te ||

English Meaning: Salutations to you, O Mahamaya, seated on the sacred Sri Peetha and worshipped by the Devas. You hold the conch, discus and mace in your hands. O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.

Verse 2

नमस्ते गरुडारूढे कोलासुरभयङ्करि।
सर्वपापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Roman: Namaste Garuḍārūḍhe Kolāsura-bhayaṅkari | Sarva-pāpa-hare Devi Mahālakṣmi Namo’stu Te ||

English Meaning: Salutations to you, O Goddess riding on Garuda, who brought fear to the demon Kolasura. You remove all sins and negativity. O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.

Verse 3

सर्वज्ञे सर्ववरदे सर्वदुष्टभयङ्करि।
सर्वदुःखहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Roman: Sarvajñe Sarva-varade Sarva-duṣṭa-bhayaṅkari | Sarva-duḥkha-hare Devi Mahālakṣmi Namo’stu Te ||

English Meaning: O all-knowing Goddess, giver of all blessings, you remove the fear caused by evil forces and take away all sorrow. O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.

Verse 4

सिद्धिबुद्धिप्रदे देवि भुक्तिमुक्तिप्रदायिनि।
मन्त्रमूर्ते सदा देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Roman: Siddhi-buddhi-prade Devi Bhukti-mukti-pradāyini | Mantra-mūrte Sadā Devi Mahālakṣmi Namo’stu Te ||

English Meaning: O Goddess, you grant accomplishment and wisdom. You give both worldly prosperity and spiritual liberation. You are the very form of sacred mantra. O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.

Verse 5

आद्यन्तरहिते देवि आद्यशक्तिमहेश्वरि।
योगजे योगसम्भूते महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Roman: Ādy-anta-rahite Devi Ādya-śakti Maheśvari | Yogaje Yoga-sambhūte Mahālakṣmi Namo’stu Te ||

English Meaning: O Goddess without beginning or end, you are the primordial power and the great divine ruler. You arise through Yoga and are born of divine spiritual power. O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.

Verse 6

स्थूलसूक्ष्ममहारौद्रे महाशक्तिमहोदरे।
महापापहरे देवि महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Roman: Sthūla-sūkṣma-mahāraudre Mahāśakti-mahodare | Mahā-pāpa-hare Devi Mahālakṣmi Namo’stu Te ||

English Meaning: O Goddess who exists in both gross and subtle forms, you are the great power and the vast divine mother. You remove even great sins. O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.

Verse 7

पद्मासनस्थिते देवि परब्रह्मस्वरूपिणि।
परमेशि जगन्मातर् महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Roman: Padmāsana-sthite Devi Parabrahma-svarūpiṇi | Parameśi Jaganmātar Mahālakṣmi Namo’stu Te ||

English Meaning: O Goddess seated on the lotus, you are the form of the Supreme Reality. O supreme ruler and mother of the universe, O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.

Verse 8

श्वेताम्बरधरे देवि नानालङ्कारभूषिते।
जगत्स्थिते जगन्मातर् महालक्ष्मि नमोऽस्तु ते॥

Roman: Śvetāmbara-dhare Devi Nānālaṅkāra-bhūṣite | Jagatsthite Jaganmātar Mahālakṣmi Namo’stu Te ||

English Meaning: O Goddess wearing white garments and adorned with many ornaments, you are present throughout the world and are the mother of the universe. O Mahalakshmi, I bow to you.

Phalashruti 1

महालक्ष्म्यष्टकं स्तोत्रं यः पठेद्भक्तिमान्नरः।
सर्वसिद्धिमवाप्नोति राज्यं प्राप्नोति सर्वदा॥

Roman: Mahālakṣmy-aṣṭakaṃ stotraṃ yaḥ paṭhed bhaktimān naraḥ | Sarva-siddhim avāpnoti rājyaṃ prāpnoti sarvadā ||

English Meaning: A devoted person who reads this Mahalakshmi Ashtakam obtains all accomplishments and receives authority, success and prosperity.

Phalashruti 2

एककाले पठेन्नित्यं महापापविनाशनम्।
द्विकालं यः पठेन्नित्यं धनधान्यसमन्वितः॥

Roman: Ekakāle paṭhen nityaṃ mahā-pāpa-vināśanam | Dvikālaṃ yaḥ paṭhen nityaṃ dhana-dhānya-samanvitaḥ ||

English Meaning: One who reads it once daily destroys great sins. One who reads it twice daily becomes blessed with wealth, grains and prosperity.

Phalashruti 3

त्रिकालं यः पठेन्नित्यं महाशत्रुविनाशनम्।
महालक्ष्मीर्भवेन्नित्यं प्रसन्ना वरदा शुभा॥

Roman: Trikālaṃ yaḥ paṭhen nityaṃ mahā-śatru-vināśanam | Mahālakṣmīr bhaven nityaṃ prasannā varadā śubhā ||

English Meaning: One who reads it three times daily destroys great enemies and obstacles. Maa Mahalakshmi remains pleased and grants auspicious blessings.
